FAQs
3v3 soccer is a fast, fun, friendly way to keep playing soccer for free during the summer months. Usually from 3-6 kids/adults per team on a small field with no goalies. Lots of scoring, lots of fun.
Yes, if you register a single player, we will do our best to assign them to a team.
No! Lots of kids play their first soccer in 3v3. It’s a relaxed environment and a great way to start playing soccer.
To play, all you need is shin guards (covered by socks) and appropriate outdoor clothing/shoes. You don’t even have to play with cleats–tennis shoes work as well. Pinnies will NOT be provided this year, so teams are encouraged to bring similar color shirts or jerseys.
Unfortunately if games are cancelled for inclement weather, field conditions, etc, there are no makeup games scheduled. It’s free soccer, just have fun!
Of course, all kids/adults are welcome. If you’d like more information about playing for Edge give a board member or coach a call or just ask them at 3v3.
Yes, some teams are coed and girls teams will play boys teams.

u10 2010-2011
u12 2008-2009
u14 2006-2007
High School–2005 and older
Adult–adult division will likely play high school teams depending on #s. We will try and make a separate adult division if there is interest.
On occasion there may be intermixed ages playing if a team or players don’t show up for their game, but this is avoided if possible.
Sorry, due to liability reasons we must limit the age to born in 2014 and older for the 2020 3v3.

Gillette Edge Soccer Club 3v3 Rules
The following rules have been designed to ensure fun fair play for all participants. Each coach and player is expected to understand these rules prior to their participation in the Gillette Edge 3v3 Soccer Event. Any questions concerning these rules should be directed to 3v3 Event Staff.
NUMBER OF PLAYERS PER TEAM:
Six is the maximum number of players on each team’s roster: three field players and three substitutes, but teams are allowed less than six players if they choose. (A team must have a minimum of 2 field players). Players may only play on one team in a division.
ALL PLAYERS WILL BE REQUIRED TO WEAR SHINGUARDS!!! NO SHIN GUARDS NO PLAY!!!
RULES DURING PLAY:
Game Duration: The game shall consist of two 18-minute halves separated by a two minute halftime period.
There are no timeouts and the Game Clock does not stop.
There will be one central clock for all games taking place. All games will start and end with this clock.
Substitution: Substitutions may be made on the fly, players must enter and exit field at the center line. Players entering game must wait until player they are replacing is off the field.
Kick Offs / Kick In’s / Direct and Indirect Kicks / Goal Kicks / Penalty Kicks:
KICK OFF: May be kicked in any direction. You cannot score directly from a kick off. The kickoff is an indirect kick. Home team will have kick off first half, away team will have kick off second half.
KICK-INS: The ball shall be kicked into play from the sideline, rather than thrown in. Five yards must be given on all kick in’s. The ball is considered in play when it is touched and changes position. This is an indirect kick.
DIRECT & INDIRECT KICKS: All dead-ball kicks (kick-in ,kick-offs, free kicks) are indirect with the exception of corner kicks and penalty kicks.
If a free kick is awarded within five yards of the opposing goal box, the ball will be moved back to five yards from the box. It is the referee’s discretion where the ball will be placed.
GOAL KICKS: May be taken from any point of the end line. All Goal Kicks are indirect kicks. Goal kicks may cross the center line.
PENALTY KICKS: Shall be awarded if, in the referee’s opinion, a scoring opportunity was nullified by an infraction. Penalty kicks are DIRECT kicks taken from the center of the mid-line with all players (on both teams) behind the mid-line. Penalty kicks are dead ball infractions. If a goal is not scored, the defense obtains possession with a goal kick.
Five Yard Rule: In all dead-ball situations, defending players must stand at least five yards away from the ball. If the defensive player’s goal is closer than five yards, the ball shall be played five yards from the goal box in line with the direction of play prior to the penalty.
Goal Scoring: A goal may only be scored from a touch (offensive or defensive) within the team’s offensive half on the field. The ball must be completely on the offensive half of the field, and cannot be touching the mid-line (Example: kick-off). If a player in their defensive half kicks the ball across the midline and the ball hits another player (offensive or defensive) in their offensive half, and the ball goes in the goal, a goal will be awarded. If a ball is kicked from the defensive half and is not touched before the ball rests in the goal, a goal kick is awarded to the defensive team.
A goal cannot be scored from an indirect kick, such as a kick-in from out-of-bounds without first being touched by another player.
Goal Keepers / Off-sides / Slide Tackling / Hand Ball Clarification:
There are no Goalkeepers!
No Off-sides!
No Slide Tackling!
If a player is sliding for the ball, contact with any player(s) from the other team is NOT ALLOWED. If a player slides and contact is initiated, a free kick shall be awarded. This does not prevent players from sliding to stop/intercept a ball where contact is not initiated during the slide. Example: a player may slide to save a ball from going out-of-bounds.
Hand Ball Clarification: Deliberate handling of the ball that denies a team of an obvious goal-scoring opportunity will result in A penalty kick (at the discretion of the referee) all other hand ball infractions will result in indirect free kick.
Field Dimensions, Goal Box, Plane of the Goal / Net Interference, Player Uniforms, Game Balls, etc.
Field Dimensions: The playing field is approximately 35 yards long by 25 yards. The goals are approximately four feet high and 8 feet wide.
The Goal Box: There are no goalkeepers in 3v3. The goal box is approximately ten feet wide by six foot long located directly in front of the goal. The goals are four feet high by eight feet wide.
There is no ball contact allowed within the goal box, however, all players may pass through the goal box as long as they do not touch the ball while in the box. If the ball comes to a rest in the goal box, or on the goal box line, a goal kick is awarded regardless of who touched the ball last. Any part of the ball or player’s body on the line or inside the plane of the box is considered in the goal box and an extension of such.
If a defensive player touches the ball after it has entered the goal box, the plane of the goal box, or an extension of the goal box (such as any part of the ball or player’s body on the line or inside the plane of the box), a goal will be awarded to the offensive team. If an offensive player touches the ball after it has entered the goal box, the plane of the goal box, or an extension of the goal box (such as any part of the ball or player’s body on the line or inside the plane of the box), a goal kick will be awarded to the defensive team, and a goal will not be counted if scored. The plane of the goal box extends upward infinitely. The referee’s judgment call and ruling on the field will not be overturned.
Plane of the Goal / Net Interference: A goal will be awarded if the ball strikes the netting portion of the goal, even if the ball is then returned back into the field of play without completely crossing the goal line. If the ball strikes the cross bar or goal posts, and simultaneously strikes the netting portion of the goal, the referee’s judgment will determine whether the netting prohibited the ball from crossing the goal line (which should be awarded a goal); or whether the bar or post prohibited the ball from crossing the goal line (which should NOT be awarded a goal). The referee’s judgment call and ruling on the field will not be overturned. In simple terms, the net should not be the source that will prohibit a shot from scoring as a goal.
SPORTSMANSHIP: Player / Coach / Spectator Ejections:
Sportsmanship: Good sportsmanship is to prevail at all times. Coaches will be held responsible for the conduct of themselves, their players, players’ parents and spectators.
Player Ejection: Referee’s have the right to eject a player or coach from the game for continual disobedience or as a result of an incident that warrants sending off. The team may then replace that player with another player
**If a player is ejected for fighting, player will be ejected from game and is subject to removal from the facility for the duration of the season.
Coach/Parent Ejection: Referees have the right to eject a coach or parent from any game for continual disobedience or as a result of an incident that warrants ejection. Coaches or parents whom are ejected by the referee or 3v3 official must leave the field and area around the field before play will continue. If a coach or parent refuses to leave, the game will be forfeited in favor of the opposing team.
Player Uniforms:
Teams may wear their own uniforms or matching shirts. No pinnies will be provided.
Game Balls / Sizes: The ball size for each group are as follows: u12 and younger size 4, u13 and older size 5
Weather Related Issues: The Gillette Edge 3v3 Staff reserves the right to modify, reschedule, or cancel the games due to inclement weather.
Any rules not covered will revert to FIFA Rules of the game.
